I was just speculating. I guess that there might be some rather large
companies and organizations that are still relying on old software for some
vital parts of their businesses. I think there will always be a risk (seen
from MS) that these companies chose another OS next time (Linux or Mac),
especially when there are solutions to run virtual machines to keep the old
windows/DOS apps.
If you look at the past, MS has always been very keen to keep backward
compatibility - maybe that is about to change, but I'm not so sure.
