Hi Mark,
If you are using Paradox for Windows then yes, the BDE is required to be
installed but it can be used in a minimal capacity.
Long time since I looked at the documentation but I think the
terminology used is Pass Through Queries which means the selected engine
processes the queries and not the BDE.
