You should use Automation with Outlook which overcomes the 32/64 bit 
boundary. This also works with Outlook 365 I believe.

Of course if you have a generic email process then you need to check the 
default email system first and then decide.

we also go as far as to figure out if we are running on 64 bit Windows I 
cannot remember why.

Also if you have a simple msg to send, you can use the mailto: protocol 
and do a winexec() if I remember correctly.

We use all three and decide which to use on the fly.
