Well, no one else was offering to spend the time and money to maintain any other sort of server,
and no one identified any other suitable forum (folks didn't want forums) or group-like thing,
free or otherwise, so what were we supposed to do?

You can always get a free gmail account that you use for nothing else and go through a VPN to
keep google from connecting you to anything on the Paradox group.  Or come up with a better
solution...
