that's the main point here, too.. this is a purchase order, the vendor needs 
to acknowledge and pass back a delivery date

I've done this (in Paradox) via an Email Server. I think it was Mailjet.
You can embed codes in the HTML you send and their server inserts things
like buttons, return email buttons, invisible pixels etc etc. There are
other companies that make the email responsive (to phone/tablet etc.)
Something one would find difficult to do via Paradox. I used the free
pdoxindy utility from Come Decristen and let the SMTP Service handle the
hard stuff. They also provide statistics about bounced emails, whether
emails have been opened and so on. It worked very very well for sending
invoices and marketing letters. Especially good with invoices because
they could say with authority "we know you got the email and we know you
opened it".
