Microsoft doesn't want old legacy compatibility and is doing its best to
get rid of it. Fewer and fewer people are requiring it. Make no mistake,
the Microsoft timeline says it'll be gone. Look at 16 bit. One of the
main reasons is new chipsets and above all, security. I for one,
wouldn't be running Paradox applications on any Internet facing
computers. SMB1 is just the beginning.
You may be able to overcome the SMB1 problem by using a SQL server.
Although I don't know whether the BDE requires SMB1 to communicate with
the IP address of the server.
